WRHS Football Fundraiser
Friday, March 14 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM, the Washburn Rural High School football team is holding a fundraiser at the
new Noodles and Company location in Topeka. Noodles and Company is providing a "sneak peak" preview of their new
restaurant on 21st and Wanamaker Road, during which visitors can make a cash or check donation to receive a free
entree and fountain drink. All proceeds will go to the Junior Blues football program.
Washburn Rural High School students who will be 14-years-old by June 2, 2014 are eligible to take driver's education.
Enrollment will take place Wednesday, March 26, in the high school library from 6:00 - 6:30 PM and 6:45 - 7:15 PM,
and also during lunch on Thursday, March 27, and Friday, March 28. This course costs $225, make check payable to
Washburn Rural High School, and you must present payment at enrollment to secure your place. Students must also
attend with a parent to complete forms required by the state. If you have a driver's permit, you must bring it to

District Wins Grant to Help Families
The American Association of School Administrators (AASA) has awarded Auburn-Washburn a $2,000 grant
as part of the Helping Kids Program to provide for immediate needs of children and their families.
Auburn-Washburn was one of seven districts nationwide to receive the award. The grants are used to
furnish items such as food and clothing, and in some instances, housing expenses.
"Our principals see hardships on a daily basis, and this grant will help us meet the basic needs for
some of our students,” said Auburn-Washburn Superintendent Dr. Brenda Dietrich. “Some funds will go
for urgent medical care, and we are hoping that we will also be able to send some students, who have
recently lost their parents, to camp this summer.”
